American Whitewater Expeditions’ (AWE) beautiful campground is reason enough for you to stick around for a day or two before or after your river excursion. Private, packed with amenities, and just a five-minute walk from the James Marshall Gold Discovery Park, we’ll will help you feel right at home in our neck of the woods.
A Home Away from Home
There’s no need to be a camper extraordinaire. AWE has everything you’ll need to sleep out under the Coloma Valley stars. You may be camping when you visit AWE, you won’t be roughing it. We’ve got free, hot showers and indoor restrooms. Our selection of tents available for rent can accommodate any number of guests — from a single person to a rambunctious family of eight. Not a huge fan of sleeping on the ground? No problem! Sleeping pads and cots are also available for rent.
Also note, that each of our campsites are flat and grassy, ensuring no one has to sleep on a boulder or roll down the hill in the middle of the night. You can even reserve a grill to feed your hungry friends after a long day spent shooting the rapids. Just call ahead and tell us what you need: we’ll make sure everything is set up and waiting for you when you arrive.
Never a Dull Moment
If shooting the rapids isn’t excitement enough for you, AWE has a fishing pond stocked to the brim with trout and bass, so you can cast your line and maybe even catch some dinner! The horseshoe pits and a volleyball court allow for some friendly (or not-so-friendly!) competitions off of the water.
If California’s sunny swelter gets to you, our swimming pool will help you cool off on a hot afternoon. If you somehow manage to get bored in all the AWE wonderfulness (which is not likely!), we’re also just a hop, skip, and jump down the road to the James Marshall Gold Discovery Park.
Not Your Average Campground
Hungry? American Whitwater’s very own Chef Richard has 20 years of experience cooking in five-star Marriott hotels all over the country. We’ve stolen him away to come cook for you! Gluten-free, peanut-free, kosher, or good, all-American classics, Chef Richard does them all! Using only the finest ingredients and putting a personal, creative spin on everything he serves, it’s the best camp food you’ll ever have. As an added bonus, we’re the only outfitter with a beer and wine bar in camp.

Everyone does. Fortunately, the River Store has just about everything you could possibly need for your adventure — from sunblock to river shoes and everything in between. You can also grab a souvenir or a gift for your friends and family back home.
