Just past Sam’s Town, exit
US-50 East at the Ponderosa Road/Shingle Springs offramp and turn left over the
freeway. Just north of the freeway, make an immediate right turn on North
Shingle Road. Continue about 4.4 miles to the "Y" in the road and take the left
fork, which is Lotus Road, following the signs to Coloma and Lotus. Continue on
Lotus Road until it deadends into Highway 49 and turn right. Go approximately
¼ mile on Highway 49, passing James Marshall State Park, and go straight
onto Coloma Heights Road, (Highway 49 makes a sharp right hand turn but
you’ll go straight.) and bear left on New River Rd. to American River
Campground. Follow the signs to the American Whitewater campsite. |
