Spring whitewater rafting on the North Fork American River is only available from April to May or June depending on the snow pack in the
Sierra. The North Fork American features almost continuous technical class III - V
whitewater rapids and is one of the most scenic rivers in California.

EASY ACCESS
Our campground is centrally located and a short drive from many major cities in Northern California. We are approximately 1 hour from Sacramento, 2 1/2 hours from the Bay Area or Reno and 1 1/2 hours from South Lake Tahoe. Once at our deluxe campground relax and unwind and get ready to have some fun and paddle rafting thrills. We take care of all your river logistics including transportation during your trip.
ADVENTURE
The 3 forks of the American River offer up some great whitewater rafting no matter what your experience or skill level to reach your thrill threshold! The South Fork of the American River is a Class III rated river perfect for families and first time rafters, while the Middle Fork of the American boasts 18 miles of gorgeous scenery mixed with Class II to Class IV rapids. The North Fork of the American River is a wild and scenic river fed by the spring runoff only and it's Class V rapids are sure to get any adventurers attention!!!
FIRST CLASS CAMPGROUND DINING
The Coloma valley is filled with activities to keep young and old entertained and engaged. We are located within walking distance of Marshall Gold Discovery State Park the location where gold was first discovered in California in 1848. Take a walking tour, hike or mountain bike through California's rich and colorful history! Or explore the South Fork American River Trail which boasts 25 miles of hiking, biking or equestrian horseback riding from Coloma to Folsom Lake. Or you can simply sit riverside at the famous "Troublemaker Rapid" and watch rafts navigate the waters, play volleyball, take a swim in the pool or let the kids fish in the pond located within our campground area.
OUR CAMPGROUND
Camping has never been so luxurious. Each campsite is close to your vehicle and has a firepit, picnic table and split rail fencing. Our private campground is used only by American Whitewater Expeditions rafters and boasts cool grassy areas, free hot showers, clean restrooms, plus a well stocked AWR River Store for any last minute items ou may need as well as souvenir T shirts. We offer 2 person, 4 person and cabin tent rentals and they are set up for you with either foam pads or cots and chairs. Sleeping bags too!

Dear Jon and Nancy,
I want to take a moment and ask that you recognize your outstanding staff. I was there in June and, because of them, had a BLAST and came back in August with two additional family members.
Wonderful Stacey picked us up at the airport (Lucky Us)! She is a hard worker and yet she remains cheerful, helpful and keeps us laughing.
Peter? What can I say? And our rafting guide, Patrick, is an amazing guy. Both my girls have crushes on him and he really kept us safe and sound.
This staff has to put up with folks from all walks of life, feeding them and seeing them through the night as well as on the river. People expect to be catered to when on vacation and they can be unreasonably demanding. You've chosen your staff well and they are well-suited to their tasks.
I've run an office, a law firm, as well as other businesses (other than my own) and I hope you truly appreciate these folks: Stacey, Peter, Patrick, Tania and everyone you have at American Whitewater. Give them all a Bonus! See you next year!
